FAO participation in the UNHCR HLOM

On 14 and 15 December 2021, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) held the first High-Level Officials Meeting as a follow-up to the first Global Refugee Forum held in 2019. The Meeting provided an opportunity for senior government officials and representatives of relevant stakeholder groups to take stock of the progress made towards achieving the objectives of the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR).

FAO delivered a statement centred on the need to go beyond the humanitarian timeline and plan responses for the medium and long-term, in line with the humanitarian-development-peace Nexus approach. While recognizing that forced displacement is taking place in an increasingly urbanized world, FAO also reiterated the need to ensure that displacement affected populations in already under-resourced and underserved rural areas are not left behind.
