Meeting of the Champions of Peace & Health: One Health highlighted as an important pathway for peace

01/06/2022

The second convening of the Champions of Peace & Health occurred on 29 April, co-chaired by H.E. Ambassador Simon Manley, the UK Permanent Representative to the World Trade Organization, United Nations, and other International Organizations in Geneva, and Scott Weber, the President of Interpeace. Mr. Dominique Burgeon, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the UN in Geneva, and Mr. Julio Pinto, Animal Health Officer (One Health) at FAO, participated in the meeting.

The discussion recalled the urgency and importance for the work of the Champions to go beyond recognising the inherent linkages between peace and health to address them in a concerted fashion. Dominique Burgeon, Director of the FAO Liaison Office with the UN in Geneva, highlighted that the One Health approach remains an increasingly relevant bridge to peace, given the interdependent needs of humans, animals, and the environment. This demand a multi-dimensional approach to managing and preventing crises.
