Soaring fertilizer prices - FAO Geneva Agriculture Trade Talks

The first session of the FAO Agriculture Trade Talks in 2022 took place on February 3. Mr. Josef Schmidhuber, Deputy Director, FAO Markets and Trade Division made a presentation entitled “Soaring fertilizer prices: Do we need a contingency plan to safeguard global food security?”.

The presentation took stock of trends and swings of supply and demand in the global fertilizer market and discussed its likely impacts on future fertilizer use and food production. It concluded by pointing to data gaps and needs, as well as new initiatives to close these gaps to ensure a better understanding of the vulnerabilities in global food and fertilizer markets.
