FAO Liaison Office in Geneva

Third session of the SIDS Solutions Dialogue Forum focuses on Fisheries and Aquaculture in SIDS

29/09/2022

Globally, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) represent over 66 percent of countries with the highest relative annual losses due to disasters. Due to their small economies and particular geography, SIDS are extremely vulnerable to disasters. This devastating trajectory for SIDS is set to continue in the years to come as climate change is making these disasters more frequent and intense.

FAO's support to SIDS includes integrating resilience building measures in agricultural development planning by developing capacities for disaster impact monitoring in agriculture, improving resilience and sustainability of agrifood systems and strengthening coherence between disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation processes.

This webinar provided a general overview of fisheries in SIDS. The main objective was to discuss the challenges SIDS face in strengthening the resilience of fisheries, propose solutions in line with FAO’s Blue transformation vision, and highlight the importance of transforming aquatic food systems for better production, better nutrition, better environment and better lives, leaving no one behind.
