World Food Day Commemorations 2022

FAO Geneva and Partners Activities in Switzerland

World Food Day 2022 will mark the 77th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The theme of the World Food Day 2022 is “Leave no one behind.” Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life. Celebrations will take place throughout the week.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates World Food Day (WFD) each year on 16 October to commemorate the founding of the Organization in 1945. Collective action across 150 countries makes World Food Day one of the most celebrated UN days. Hundreds of events and outreach activities bring together government institutions, businesses, civil society organizations (CSOs), the media, and the general public, including youth. They promote worldwide awareness on hunger and action to ensure healthy diets for all, leaving no one behind.

#WorldFoodDay 2022 is being marked in a year with multiple global challenges including the ongoing pandemic, conflicts, climate change, rising prices and international tensions. All of this is affecting global food security. With the theme “Leave no one behind,” the World Food Day 2022 campaign calls for global solidarity and collective action to make sure that no one is left behind through the transformation to more efficient, inclusive, sustainable and resilient agrifood systems for better production, better nutrition, a better environment, and a better life.

FAO Geneva and Partners are organizing a series of activities to commemorate the day during the entire week and celebrate WFD2022 with the programme as presented below:
