Jeu de Piste: Youth Challenge Game for World Food Day 2023

16/10/2023

Geneva - The FAO Liaison Office in Geneva, Association ma-terre, and Fondation Partage joined hands to celebrate the World Food Day in Geneva, promoting actions for the future of food, people and the planet. The three organizations rolled out a Jeu de Piste, also known as the youth challenge game, to engage with students in interactive activities. Students, professors and general visitors at the University of Geneva were invited to take part in an educational trail, exploring key themes such as local and global challenges of food waste, hunger and food insecurity, resource water management, agrifood systems transformation, and climate change.

Jeu de Piste: quiz games on local, regional and global food actions

With each organization taking charge of different booths, participants first started their challenge game at Fondation Partage’s booth, where they learned about local actions supporting food security. At this booth, Fondation Partage provided insights into their initiatives and projects centered around the fight against food waste and food insecurity.

In the second booth, Association ma-terre, also called the “Geneva House of Food”, built awareness on what could be done regionally, guiding participants on methods towards creating efficient and sustainable solutions through mindful food consumption with better social, economic and environmental footprint, especially at the regional level. Through an interactive exercise, ma-terre challenged participants to think creatively about their answers when discussing how our food choices can contribute to shaping our society.

This led to participants making the final stop at FAO Geneva’s booth, where people got to learn about actions at the global level on strengthening food security, water resource management and ultimately transforming agrifood systems. Additionally, the FAO Strategic Framework 2022-31 were presented to demonstrate how FAO is supporting Members to achieve better production, better nutrition, better environment and a better life, leaving no one behind.

Building on the collaborative efforts of celebrating World Food Day, the Jeu de Piste demonstrated commitments from organizations, youth and the general public to creating a healthier and more sustainable future for all.

It is a day to promote worldwide awareness of hunger and action for the future of food, people, and the planet.
