The EU-funded project 'Enhancing Land Consolidation in North Macedonia', implemented by FAO in collaboration with MAFWE, conducted a Stakeholder Consultation Workshop for the preparation of the new National Land Consolidation Strategy for 2024-2034. The workshop took place at the Hotel Holiday Inn in Skopje on February 13, 2024.

Representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Water Economy, National Extension Agency, Cooperative of Macedonian Agricultural Producers, National Federation of Farmers, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Food and Agriculture, civil society, and the EU Delegation in Skopje convened at the workshop.

Discussions and technical feedback sessions during the workshop focused on the draft objectives and Extended Outline of the upcoming Strategy. This collaborative dialogue aimed to ensure that the viewpoints and insights of all participating stakeholders are duly considered in the subsequent stages of Strategy preparation.

Key topics addressed during the workshop included an overview of the Strategy formulation process, the current agricultural landscape in North Macedonia, experiences with previous land consolidation efforts, and proposed policy options for the upcoming strategic period. Facilitated by experts from the FAO project team and MAFWE representatives, working group discussions were also organized, each focusing on specific elements crucial to the Strategy's development, such as the legal framework, institutional strengthening, financial and strategic planning, public awareness raising, capacity building initiatives, and other policies relating to land consolidation.

The workshop demonstrated a commitment to inclusive decision-making, ensuring that North Macedonia's upcoming Land Consolidation Strategy reflects its agricultural landscape and priorities. With input from various stakeholders, a forward-looking Strategy is being crafted to guide sustainable and inclusive agriculture development in the country.
