Preston Karue, a medical Dr. by profession, was one of the participants who attended the recent Geographical Indication (GI) workshop in Wewak where the EU-funded STREIT PNG Programme in collaboration with the PNG Investment Promotion Authority through the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), consult with the local stakeholders on the pathway towards the formalization and utilisation of GI in the Sepiks and PNG. Preston is currently engaging as a Handicraft Businessperson in the East Sepik Province with a focus on mothers and young ladies in his village (Vagiput & Batbi), located in one of the remotest parts of Wosera Gawi District. Here, Preston shares his view on the GI workshop and his opinions on how the concept of GI can transform local small businesses in terms of copyright and market access.
