Vanilla Cultivation, Husbandry and Processing Training in Mandigen village

The EU-STREIT PNG Programme continues to provide support to vanilla farmers, even in hard-to-reach areas, assisting them to rehabilitate old vanilla blocks and improve cultivation of new vanilla blocks. Here, the FAO-led team after taking 1.5 hour of ascending bush track reached Mandigen Village in East Sepik Province and provided intensive training to 60 lead farmers on vanilla cultivation, husbandry, and processing. The FAO technical assistance mission also conducted block inspections and GPS mapping of existing vanilla blocks for further rehabilitation. The trainees were enabled to pass on these skills to more than 10 other farmers in their villages and households.
