The Global Office of GSARS II, hosted by the FAO Statistics division will be hosting the second Global Steering Committee (GSC) on February 15th at FAO headquarters in Rome.

The members of the GSC are representatives from beneficiary countries, the donors (the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the European Union), the programme implementing partners FAO, UNECA and PARIS21 and operational partner ENSEA (École Nationale Supérieure de Statistique et d’Économie Appliquée d’Abijan).

The Global Steering Committee aims to provide strategic guidance and oversight for the execution of the 2nd Global Action Plan.

The upcoming meeting will focus on the review of programme achievements as presented in the Annual Report 2022, and on the endorsement of the 2023 Work Plan and Budget. The ambitious Work Plan for the coming year sets targets for country-level technical activities and effective governance, coordination with other statistical capacity development programmes, and communication for visibility and resource mobilization.

A first exchange of ideas on the next phase of the GSARS program will also be part of the agenda.

This video was shown at the Steering Committee. The video is a compilation of the GSARSII activities in 25 African countries and their achievements in 2022 delivered by FAO and its partners PARIS21 and UNECA as well as a look into the future with the coming of the third phase.
