The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARSII) has successfully concluded a workshop in Niger as part of the FARMECO, Typology and Indicators packages. The mission, held from May 14 to 22, 2024, focused on enhancing agricultural statistics and rural data through various technical assistance packages.

 The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics recently concluded two highly productive workshops in Zambia and Zimbabwe from May 19th to June 1st, 2024. Led by Statistician Lassina Pare, these missions aimed to facilitate a regional training on basic agricultural statistics in Lusaka and provide technical support for finalizing the Strategic Plan for Agricultural and Rural Statistics (SPARS) design in Harare.

The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics has successfully concluded an intensive eight-day workshop on selected Comprehensive African Agricultural Development Programme (CAADP) Indicators and Typology in Nairobi, Kenya. Held from May 13 to 22, 2024, the workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of Kenyan agricultural statistics producers and users in computing key agricultural indicators and farm typology classification variables.

 The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics has successfully concluded a comprehensive training session on agricultural loss indicators in Tanzania. The training, held from May 20 to 24, 2024, aimed to enhance the capacity of local stakeholders in analyzing data on agricultural losses and constructing key agricultural loss indicators, including the Food Loss Index (SDG 12.3.1a). The training also provided an opportunity to reflect on the technical assistance provided so far and to discuss future steps for adopting and scaling up these tools.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMAFS), organized a pivotal workshop from February 12th to 24th, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria under the second phase of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARSII). This workshop, aimed at modernizing agricultural data dissemination and introducing key training on Statistical Disclosure Control (SDC), marks a significant leap towards enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural data systems.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) proudly announces the successful conclusion of the GSARS II Final Conference, held from June 11 to 12, 2024, in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Over 80 participants from partner institutions, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), and beneficiary countries attended. This significant conference marked the finalization of the second phase of the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS II), celebrating the years of dedicated efforts in enhancing the capacities of national agricultural statistical systems across 27 participating countries in Africa.

The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS) successfully conducted a workshop in Abuja from April 16 to 18, 2024, focusing on the methodological presentation of CAADP indicators, gap analysis of national data sets, and hands-on sessions for indicators computation. This workshop aimed to address the challenges associated with the calculation of Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) indicators, which are essential for supporting evidence-based decision-making and investments in agricultural development.

The workshop, themed "Strengthening Data Collection to Support Decision-Making in Agriculture," brought together participants from 27 participating African countries to enhance capacities in cost-effective data collection methods crucial for developing accurate agricultural statistics.

This crucial workshop brought together statisticians and agricultural experts from various Tanzanian institutions to focus on "Open Data and Interactive Data Portals."

From November 7 to 11, 2022, Madagascar hosted a technical workshop as part of the technical assistance provided under GSARS II. This critical gathering laid the groundwork for the development of essential tools, including a questionnaire and a CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing) application, crucial for the successful execution of the agricultural production survey in Madagascar. A standard questionnaire was agreed upon, featuring a unique approach to farm visits and yield sampling, marking a significant step forward in the country's agricultural data collection efforts.
