From 26 to 28 September 2023, global statistical experts gathered in Wiesbaden for the UNECE Expert Meeting on Statistical Data Confidentiality. Coordinated by the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) and RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, this meeting held significance in addressing challenges tied to the burgeoning demand for geospatial data derived from agricultural surveys.

From 18th to 29th September 2023, a training workshop on data processing using advanced statistical software tools was organized by the GSARS-II Global Coordination Office in Harare, Zimbabwe. Led by Michele Rocca, the workshop was designed to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge. The goal of the workshop was to equip participants with skills in survey data analysis, data editing, imputation, and estimation. By the end of the program, attendees were expected to be proficient in generating meaningful statistics pertinent to the agricultural and rural sectors.

The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARSII) continues its pursuit to address the statistical needs of developing countries, aiming to elevate the quality and availability of agricultural and rural data. To achieve that goal, a series of comprehensive training workshops have been successfully executed in Madagascar and Comoros, steered by the expertise of trainer TIOTSOP Blaise. The participants, who come from diverse professional backgrounds, were enriched with a deep understanding of qualitative data processing, specifically harnessing the capabilities of statistical softwares.

The FAO Statistics Division recently conducted a vital workshop in Angola to bolster the quality and availability of agricultural and rural statistics. Led by Carlos Creva Singano from August 28 to September 1, the event offered hands-on training on sampling design and estimations under the GSARS Phase II initiative. Participants from various Angolan Ministries and the National Statistics Office focused on pressing agricultural estimation challenges. The successful workshop, filled with practical exercises and real-world examples, hints at a bright future for enhanced agricultural data in Angola.

In an effort to fortify agricultural and rural statistics, the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS) hosted a pivotal training workshop in Tanzania focused on the Master Sampling Frames (MSF) package. The MSF package has been proposed for 13 beneficiary countries, including Tanzania. The workshop's primary aim was to provide exhaustive training on sampling and estimation procedures that are crucial for the effectiveness of agricultural surveys. This training was led by expert Dramane Bako and was joined by 14 participants.
