Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics

ENSEA hosts a Regional Training on Agricultural Statistics organized by FAO and UNECA

In collaboration with the Global Strategy to improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS) program implemented by FAO and its key partner UNECA, ENSEA is hosting a training aimed at developing data producers’ skills in agricultural statistics to the benefit of 36 participants from 18 African countries.  

The 10 days training is taking place from November 8th to 18th in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire and will culminate with the involvement of participants in the celebrations planned for African Statistics Day which coincides with the last day of the course.

 

This training, made possible by the financial contribution of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the European Union, was developed jointly by GSARS and UNECA to address a fundamental need to build the knowledge and skills of individuals involved in the agricultural data production process. The focus is on encouraging the optimal use of resources and tools to produce, manage, analyze and disseminate agricultural statistics and the application of innovative methods developed in the framework of the GSARS program.

 

The training covers the main concepts and definitions in agricultural statistics, the survey cycle, including development of a survey project, preparation of instruments, data collection, data editing, cleaning and imputation, data management and preservation, tabulation and gender-relevant statistics. 

Participating countries are Angola, Burkina Faso, Benin, Sierra Leone, Madagascar, Burundi, DR Congo, Guinea Bissau, Lesotho, Comoros, Liberia, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Togo, Mozambique and Côte d'Ivoire.
