13/03/2024

The Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics (GSARS), successfully concluded a four-day intensive workshop in Cairo, Egypt. Led by trainer Yasmine El-Husseiny, the workshop aimed at enhancing agricultural statistics through advanced data analysis and indicator computation.

Held from February 25 to 28, the workshop brought together 11 key participants from the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation (MALR) and the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The event was particularly notable for its inclusive participation, with over a third of attendees being women, underscoring the FAO's commitment to gender balance in agricultural development.

The workshop's primary objective was to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to strengthen Egypt's agricultural statistics by collecting data related to CAADP indicators and computing them. Participants delved into the Malabo biennial reporting process, analyzed existing data sources, and proposed innovative solutions to fill data gaps, significantly boosting Egypt's capacity for effective agricultural reporting.

Training sessions covered a range of essential topics, including selected CAADP indicators, their calculation methods, and hands-on practice with real data. The interactive format ensured active engagement, blending theoretical presentations, group discussions, and practical exercises.

This workshop represents a significant step forward in strengthening agricultural statistics systems, with discussions between stakeholders already leading to actionable suggestions for improving data collection and analysis. The Global Strategy remains dedicated to fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in agricultural statistics, ensuring sustainable development and food security for all.
