13/04/2023

The Global Strategy organized trainings on farm typology in Mali, from 3 to 11 November 2022, led by the ESS statistician Mariana Toteva.

The first session introduced the internationally recognized concepts and definitions for the classification of agricultural holdings into homogeneous groups and addressed 30 representatives of producers and users of agricultural statistics in the country, such as directorates of the Ministry of Rural Development (MDR), National Statistical Institute (INSTAT), other ministries, state agencies and non-governmental organizations.

The training was opened by the representatives of the FAO and MDR who both stressed the importance of quality agricultural statistics in decision-based policymaking. The session was accompanied by active discussions on the country's experience and needs in the field of farm typology.

The second 3 day-workshop targeted more than 10 statisticians and agro-economists from the Planning and Statistics Unit of the Rural Development Sector (CPS/SDR) of the MRD, other directorates of the MRD and INSTAT.

The active participation of all members in the training allowed the calculation of the average output coefficients for all main crops and livestock types which will be used in the future development of the national farm typology but also as examples for other countries in the region.
