Farmers benefitting from the FAO voucher scheme programme

01/02/2022

The Ministry of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Lebanon, announced, mid-December 2021, the start of the distribution process of the vouchers to support men and women farmers.

This programme, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with FAO, is supported by donors such as: the World Bank, the Government of Canada, the Netherlands/ILO, and the Government of Japan. FAO supported as well the voucher scheme implemented by the World Food Programme (WFP) under an European Union funded project. The distribution of these vouchers started in October 2021.

Under the FAO implemented programme, each eligible farmers receives vouchers valued at USD300 for the procurement of essential inputs to enable continued agricultural production. Two types of vouchers are provided: vouchers for crop production inputs (fertilizers and seeds) and vouchers for animal production inputs, mostly animal and fish feed in addition to varroa mite treatment.

Farmers, have previously applied at the agricultural centers of the Ministry of Agriculture to receive vouchers, and those who meet the pre-determined conditions are being contacted to receive their vouchers at those centers.

An independent contracted Third Party Monitoring body conducted field visits to a random sample to ensure that applicants meet the program’s eligibility criteria. This agency also will follow up on the distribution of vouchers by verifying random samples of beneficiaries who received vouchers.
