Public procurement in Africa benefitting family farmers and schools
10 March 2015, Rome--- An innovative development partnership spanning five countries in Africa is providing important lessons on how to promote local, small-scale farm production while fostering food security and social protection. What is the key component in the programme? It’s something that many of us are familiar with: school meals. It’s called the “Purchase from Africans for Africa programme”- or PAA for short, and it’s modelled on Brazil’s own achievements in fighting hunger. With PAA entering its third year of implementation, a recently released report has come out highlighting the achievements and lessons learned.

Florence Tartanac is a senior officer with FAO in Rome. In the following interview she will explain more about how the programme works.
