Conflict in South Sudan threatens to worsen food security situation

17 January 2014, Rome - The humanitarian situation in South Sudan has deteriorated rapidly since fighting broke out in mid-December. The conflict has not only caused the loss of life and displacement, but has also disrupted agricultural development and humanitarian activities crucial. The impacts of the conflict on livelihoods in four of South Sudan's ten states are generating an alarming risk of food insecurity and malnutrition.

Mr Daniele Donati is the Head of FAO’s Emergency Response Team. In the following interview he explains the current situation on the ground, how the conflict affects food security in South Sudan and what FAO doing.
