It will take some time to rehabilitate agriculture in South-Asia.
Thomas Osborn, an Agricultural Officer for Seed Security in the Seed and Plant Genetic Resources Service in FAO, Rome, monitors the crop situation very closely in liaison with national counterparts in Tsunami affected-countries. He tells us how he's been working since the Tsunami hit South-Asia.

The Tsunami destroyed hectares of agriculture lands and crops that are essential to the people's livelihoods. Thomas Osborn points out that irrigated rice production in Sri Lanka and Banda Aceh, Indonesia, along with the production of coconuts, bananas, cassava and spice crops in other affected lands will need to be rehabilitated as soon as possible. Mr. Osborn explains:
