FAO and Nicaragua exchange visits and strengthen cooperation
Nicaragua’s progress in the fight against hunger: an inspiring model

2 September 2013, Rome – This summer, in Nicaragua, FAO Director-General Graziano da Silva signed a Cooperation Framework Agreement between FAO and the Government , contributing to the National Human Development Plan on the eradication of hunger and extreme poverty.
In a follow-up step this week in Rome, Mr. Graziano received in his office Dr. Paul Oquist Kelley, Minister-Private Secretary for National Policies for the Presidency of the Republic of Nicaragua, who was accompanied by Dr. Telemaco Talavera, President of the National Council of Universities of Nicaragua.

Last August, the FAO Director-General toured Brazil, Argentina, El Salvador and Nicaragua and witnessed national efforts being developed to strengthen the food security of their populations. During his visit to Argentina , the Director- General participated in the Second Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of Sub-Saharan Africa and Argentina.
