'Women and Nutrition' event brings together leading women to discuss sustainability

14 November 2013, Rome – A line-up of prominent leading women in the international community visited FAO today to participate in an event organized by the Milan Expo called, “Women and Nutrition: Ideas for a Sustainable Future”. Honoured guests and panelists included: Marta Dassù, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Italy; Vandana Shiva, Environmental Activist and Author, India; Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, Director General for Agriculture, Agri-Food and Territorial Policies French Ministry of Agriculture, France; Hanna Tetteh, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ghana; Louise Fréchette, Diplomat and Chair of the Board of CARE Canada; Maurizia Iachino, President Oxfam Italia; Maria da Luz Guebuza, First Lady of the Republic of Mozambique; and Emma Bonino, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Italy. Today’s event was a meeting of minds on the importance of nutrition in the diets of women in developing countries and the implications of neglecting this issue.
