FAO launches its Policy on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Food security, nutrition
26 November 2010- Scientific findings show that indigenous peoples face a higher risk of food insecurity and malnutrition than other groups because they suffer from high poverty levels. The Policy states that "FAO member states commit themselves to actively encourage the consumption of foods, particularly those available locally, that contribute to diversified and balanced diets".

Researchers and academia are keen to contribute. The following University lecturers in Nigeria stressed the importance of Education in balancing modern with indigenous diets (visiting FAO, early November 2010):
