16 October: World Food Day Agricultural cooperatives can contribute to food security
Rome, 16 October 2012- World Food Day is celebrated today in 150 countries worldwide. In Rome, the following official statements have recognized the role of cooperatives in improving food security and contributing to the eradication of hunger. Although cooperatives produce most of the food in many countries, small-scale farmers still have poor access to markets, lack of bargaining power to buy inputs at better prices and lack of access to financial services.
