Partnering with fisheries communities to promote pescatourism in Turkey’s Gulf of Gökova

As part of FAO’s Blue Hope Initiatve, aimed at strengthening fisheries communities in vulnerable areas of the Mediterranean coast, Turkey is working to develop pescatourism (sustainable, fisheries-related tourism), activities in its Gulf of Gökova. Fisherfolk associations, representatives of the tourism industry, municipal officials and ministry officials are working alongside FAO to develop policies that will allow for these activities that will bolster coastal communities’ livelihoods, while simultaneously providing tourists with an insight into local traditions, customs and culinary specialties.
