A Crisis Management Centre hosted by FAO has been established to respond to fast-moving international animal diseases, major plant pests and diseases, and global food safety issues. In the first instance, the Centre will focus on highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1), providing fast and effective specialized technical support to affected and at-risk countries. The Centre is designed to meet the immediate needs of countries facing disease outbreaks, wherever and whenever they occur. It is funded mainly by extra-budgetary donor contributions.
