Graziano da Silva: improve access to land and other resources for small-scale farmers; increase investments in sustainable agriculture, resilience building
15 June 2016, Brussels - Sustainable rural development is key to addressing hunger, poverty and the other root causes of migration, a growing phenomenon which is undermining  many countries' ability to achieve their development goals, FAO Director-General José Graziano da Silva said today. "The migratory pressures causing major concern at a global level today result from war, conflict and political instability, but FAO also calls for adequate attention to be given to pressures associated with the very root causes of migration," Graziano da Silva told participants at the European Development Days 2016 in Brussels.

Gobierno aprobó la nueva Ley de soberanía y seguridad alimentaria y nutricional.
La aprobación por la Cámara de Diputados de República Dominicana de la nueva Ley de Soberanía y Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional es un paso fundamental hacia la erradicación del hambre y la malnutrición en dicho país, señaló hoy la FAO. La ley fue declarada de urgencia y aprobada el 8 de junio, creando el Sistema Nacional para la Soberanía y Seguridad Alimentaria y Nutricional. Este sistema facilitará el diseño e implementación de todas las políticas, programas y proyectos de soberanía y seguridad alimentaria y nutricional en el país, siguiendo un enfoque de derechos.

7 June 2016, Beijing - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of the People's Republic of China have announced plans to intensify their partnership in south-south cooperation activities, FAO announced today. Partnership would include capacity development and empowerment initiatives
27 May 2016, Rome - FAO said today it will engage in a strategic partnership with India's Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) in order to optimize its efforts on the empowerment of rural people, women in particular, which are key to eradicate poverty and hunger and to promote nutritious and healthy food systems. The partnership will be signed later this year.

$30m initiative aims at empowering smallholder wood producers, reducing poverty
13 May 2016, Rome - The European Union (EU) and FAO have agreed to step up joint efforts to support tropical timber producing countries in curbing illegal logging, improving forest governance and promoting the trade of legally sourced timber.
