The Ad Hoc Technical Committee on Conservation and Sustainable Use

Through Resolution 5/2019, the Governing Body established the Ad Hoc Technical Committee on Conservation and Sustainable Use (ACSU). The Committee has continued to perform the tasks assigned by the Governing Body (Fourth Session, Resolution 7/2011Fifth Session, Resolution 7/2013Sixth Session, Resolution 4/2015; Seventh Session, Resolution 6/2017; Eighth Session, Resolution 5/2019)

At its Ninth Session, the Governing Body reaffirmed  the key role of the conservation and sustainable use of PGRFA, and the link between Farmers’ Rights under Article 9 and the provisions on conservation and sustainable use of Articles 5 and 6 of the International Treaty. At the same session, the Governing Body decided to convene the Ad Hoc Technical Committee on Conservation and Sustainable Use of PGRFA.

The Ad Hoc Technical Committee on Conservation and Sustainable Use of Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture has the following tasks:

  1. Provide inputs to the Secretariat for the revision and finalization of the Concept Note of the Joint Programme; and
  2. Develop suggestions on future strategies to address the bottlenecks identified in the Background Study, for the consideration of the Governing Body at its Tenth Session
