09/01/2014

International Green Week Berlin, one of the largest expositions of food, agriculture and horticulture in the world, provides an international meeting place for sharing ideas about agriculture and promoting food security.

This year, on 17 January 2014, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture will be there to host a high-level event from 13.00 – 15.00 hours, Room 44, ICC. A number of high-level speakers will participate in this special event to discuss agriculture, food security and plant genetic resources in the context of the International Treaty. Topics of discussion will include Helping Farmers with Climate Change Adaptation through On-Farm Management of Crops and Co-Development &Transfer of Technology, Fostering the Resilience of Plant Agro-Biodiversity in the Face of Climate Change, and Enhancing Benefit-Sharing & the Multilateral System under the International Treaty.

This event will also feature best practices and success stories from the current portfolio of the Treaty’s Benefit-Sharing Fund projects, providing the perspectives of both donors and beneficiaries. Beneficiaries of on-going projects will be present to share their experiences from the field. Donors will be present to share their funding priorities.

The 3rd call for project proposals under the Treaty’s Benefit-Sharing Fund will continue to focus on helping farmers adapt to climate change, and on supporting the sharing of technology, knowledge and plant genetic material needed by developing countries to achieve food security. International Green Week will provide a venue for us to tell everyone about how the International Treaty helps the world share the benefits derived from food plants, and how we help farmers help themselves. We hope to see many of our stakeholders at this Treaty event.
