The implementation Multilateral System of the Treaty through the lens of India

11/10/2013

The publication 'A road map for implementing the multilateral system of access and benefit-sharing in India',  which puts through the lens of India’s stakeholders the national implementation of the Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing of the International Treaty, is now available online.

It is a collection of 14 papers from different authors edited by M. Halewood, P. Brahmi, P.N. Mathur and K.C. Bansal and co-published by Bioversity International, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the India's National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources.

The book addresses a broad range of issues that are important to consider as India develops its strategy for implementing the Treaty’s genepool: flows of plant genetic resources into and out of India; the state of conservation and use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture in India; the rationale for India's decision to ratify the Treaty; whether or not there is legal space to implement the Multilateral System in India; linkages and efforts to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD); how the Multilateral System can provide support for efforts in India to exploit crop diversity to adapt to climate change; how to the develop the Global Information System of Article 17; and ultimately, a road map for implementing the Multilateral System in India.
