FAO and UNDP support Regional Goodwill Ambassador on an excruciating feat to raise awareness about the climate emergency and food security

21/06/2022

Regional Goodwill Ambassador, Michael Haddad, who is paralysed from the chest down, yesterday defied all odds to achieve the impossible, completing his Arctic walk for climate resilience and food security.

Accompanied by a team of supporters, including representatives from the FAO and UNDP, Michael walked five kilometres scaling more than 130 metres over rough terrain without the use of his legs, carrying with him seed samples from twelve Arab countries and a book given to him by Pope Francis. Michael delivered a “message of hope”, depositing seeds at the Global Seed Vault in Svalbard - the world's largest backup facility for seeds.
