International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture

The Multilateral System initiates 2014 with new inclusions of material

17/01/2014

The Secretary of the International Treaty has been notified by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry of France of two new collections of forages and potato that are now included in the Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing of the International Treaty and available for the transfer under the terms and conditions of the Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA).

The two collections, which together bring to the Multilateral System 622 new accessions, are maintained in two different locations by the National Institute for Agriculture Research (INRA, in French). The first collection includes 531 accessions of forages located in Poitou-Charantes (Lusignan) while the second collection includes 91 accessions of potato located in Rennes (Ploudaniel).

The names of the accessions, a summary description, and the names of the curators are listed in the notification that the Secretariat has made available online. Additional passport and other technical information related to the accessions can be found online in several websites listed in the notification:

These accessions join the two French private collections of bread wheat and maize already included in the Multilateral System by the "Association Française des Semences de céréales à paille et autres espèces Autogames" (AFSA) and "Association pour l'Etude et l'Amélioration du Maïs" notified to the Secretary back in 2009.

The International Treaty makes available through its website notifications on the material included in the Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing received from Contracting Parties, the International Agriculture Research Centres of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), other International Centres and natural and legal persons within the jurisdiction of Contracting Parties. Users interested in sending a notification to the Secretary, can download from the Treaty’s website a sample letter in four languages.
