During a virtual webinar held on the 18th of May 2023, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Australian Water Partnership, released its latest publication on Managing Water Scarcity in the Asia-Pacific region.

In an open conversation between authors and Mekong government officials, the event discussed key findings on water scarcity risks and recommendations for improved water scarcity management. The water scarcity management practices of ten countries, including several in ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), such as Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, have been analyzed in this new publication with the aim of drawing policy, regulatory, and planning lessons on what has worked and what needs to be further improved to mitigate the risks of water scarcity for a water-secure and resilient Asia-Pacific.

The event was attended by about 197 participants and included the following speakers:

  • Ms Katharine Cross, Strategy & Partnerships Lead, AWP
