FAO and Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) Explore Strategic Collaboration Opportunities for Expanding Remote Sensing Applications in Agriculture

Dr. Abdul Hakim Elwaer, Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa, along with his team from the Water Scarcity Initiative (WSI), visited the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) on the 9th of June, 2024. This visit aimed to strengthen ties and explore collaborative opportunities in agriculture and water management, both within Egypt and across Africa and the Middle East. During the visit, EgSA showcased its recent innovations, including its remote sensing and satellite imagery applications. This technological advancement is set to play a crucial role in enhancing agricultural and water management applications in the region.

Dr. Elwaer and his delegation received an in-depth tour of EgSA's facilities, gaining insights into the agency's groundbreaking projects and operations. This visit marked the beginning of a unique partnership between EgSA and FAO, paving the way for impactful collaborations aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and promoting sustainable water management practices throughout the NENA region.
