FAO-RNE hosts an interesting session at Cairo Water Week to discuss ways to scale up water-related action for food and climate security as part of the Inter-Regional Technical Platform on Water Scarcity (iRTP-WS) inter-regional technical activities.

The sessions aimed at to discuss actionable, replicable, and scalable integrated, Water, Agriculture, and Climate Nexus approaches that will contribute to FAO newly established iRTP-WS Work Programme, by adopting interconnected systems thinking that embraces Complexity, Innovation, and Partnerships.

Speakers from the League of Arab States, the Union of the Mediterranean, and the Australia Water Partnership addressed various aspects of the subject, ranging from the role of intersectoral governance to finance and nature-based solution applications.

The session concluded with a message from Chair Jean-Marc Faurès , Regional programme Leader, stating, “Water affects every aspect of development and is intertwined with nearly every SDG. Delivering on such complexity and scale will always be beyond the capacity or capabilities of any organization. The FAO's newly established Water Scarcity Platform represents an excellent opportunity to advance partnerships through an inter-regional collaborative strategy in order to marshal the necessary resources, skills, and ideas from various sectors”.
