08/11/2022

The official launch of the Water and Climate Pavilion on the first day of COP27 highlighted the role of water in combating the climate change challenge.

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egyptian Prime Minister, chaired this high-level event, which was also attended by His Excellency, Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency, Mr. Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and H.E Prof. Dr. Hani Sewilam, Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.

Egypt is one the most arid countries in the world, and it relies exclusively on the Nile River for its renewable water resources. The Nile River Delta is one of the most threatened areas globally and the most sensitive to climate change, which makes the protection of coastal areas a necessary measure to preserve the safety of citizens and existing investments.

The Water and Climate Pavilion will continue until November 18th in the city of Sharm El Sheikh, and each day will be dedicated to different topics. Its program covers a wide range of sub-topics from health, nutrition and energy to gender, development and biodiversity.
