Water Pavilion at COP27-Thematic Day 4:- Climate Smart Agriculture for Food Security, Adaptation, and Sustainability, concluded

On Friday November 11th, 2022, FAO and IWMI hosted the Thematic Day 4 (TD4) at the COP27 Water Pavilion on  Climate Smart Agriculture for Food Security, Adaptation, and Sustainability. The TD4 Program included the following sessions:

Opening Session: -Climate Smart Agriculture-From Science to Policy, Governance and Finance- kicked start the science-policy dialogue to accelerate the mutual exchange and adoption of proven effective and sustainable climate smart agriculture solutions.

Agriculture in Water Scarce Contexts Session discussed potential global actions for Agri-food systems transformation through climate resilient agricultural practices, maintaining ecosystems and maintaining seed genetic diversity, towards more integrated and systemic approaches.

 

The State of Land and Water Resources for Food and Agriculture Report for the RNE Region was launched. This publication presents up-to-date information and analyses on the current state, trends and challenges facing land and water in the RNE region.

Innovation, Technology and Digital Agriculture session discussed the importance of technological innovations, digital agriculture and market-based instruments, in improving water use efficiency and natural resource management in the agricultural sector.

Building Climate-Resilient Agri-food Systems session explored climate resilience at the intersection of water and food. Speakers provided a global-scale assessment of the food-water nexus, discuss opportunities and challenges for building resilient food systems and explore the role of groundwater management. Country cases elaborated how this works is playing out on the ground.

Water management in Nomadic Indigenous Peoples' Food Systems provided an opportunity to learn about the knowledge and territorial management systems of nomadic Indigenous.

The High Level session provided insights from Government Agencies and Donor Countries on their needs and priorities on Agriculture for Food Security, Adaptation, and Sustainability.

The COP27- Water Pavilion  is led by the Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, in partnership with FAO and mobilizing more than 30 different global organizations, institutions, governments, and companies.
