The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sudan conducted a 3-day joint field visit from 6th to 8th February to Sennar State. The objective of the field visit was to introduce the FAO Sudan project: “smallholders and agro pastoralists value chain support in the face of climate change’’ funded by Norway.

During the field visit, FAO and Norway informed the stakeholders including smallholder farmers, pastoralists and decentralised technical experts and authorities of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources (MoPER) that the project started in December 2022 and will last 4 years.  The FAO will use a watershed ecosystem approach to address the root causes of key challenges facing agriculture sector  in 3 states (Sennar, White Nile, and Gedaref) and support smallholder farmers, pastoralists, youth and women  and their key institutions to produce better, to have access to market for better revenues and protect their natural resources for sustainable production and better life in the face of climate change.

‘’This is a complex and multi-dimensional project, which benefits from USD15 million generous funding from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Sudan to address the root causes of agriculture under performance and to unlock the potential of the sector for a sustainable agro-food systems transformation, thus contributing to the achievement of the SDG 2: “Zero Hunger Goal of leave no one behand in Sennar, White Nile and Gedaref States’’, said Adam Yao, FAO Representative a.i in Sudan.
