There is very little published information on the economics of rizipisciculture. Vincke (1979) cites the data of Tan et al (1973) on rizi-pisciculture farms in Malaysia.
The following is the summary of Tan's observations.
Farmers' own Farms | Farms on Rental
Double harvest | Single harvest | Double harvest | Single harvest
Revenue (annual) per farm (U.S. Dollars) (Average size of farm: 1.1 ha) | 762 $ | 366 $ | 393 $ | 184 $ |
Percentage of annual revenue from fish | 6% | 27% | 12% | 52% |
Average production of paddy in these forms was 2270 – 2966 kg/ha/year and fish production 132 kg/ha/year. The major species cultured were Trichogaster pectoralis (72%), Clarias macrocephalus (20%), Ophiocephalus (Channa) striatus, (6%) and Anabas testudineus (20%).
