5. EQUIPMENT

The list of equipment to be purchased for the project can be logically divided as follows:

5.1 EQUIPMENT PURCHASED BEFORE OCTOBER 1988

This equipment is listed in Appendix A5.1 and covers, essentially, the laboratory/office equipment. It will be transferred to the project site as soon as it becomes practical to use it in loco (office and laboratory building ready).

5.2 EQUIPMENT TO BE INCLUDED IN THE UNDP CONTRIBUTION

Four main items have been included in this list (see Appendix A5.2): the computer, the mechanical filters, the pumps which will be installed in the hatchery and the remaining laboratory equipment. The computer has already been purchased and is therefore ready for transfer to the project site as soon as is practical. The mechanical filters, including the two gravel filters and the two diatom filters will be used to pre-filter the hatchery water supply. The pumps included in this list are those to be used in the hatchery recirculating systems. The laboratory equipment includes all those instruments required for the farm and control of the production process as well as instruments for monitoring the lagoon ecosystem (see Report by Lagoon Specialist, Mr. Guidastri).

The detailed specifications with reference to this equipment can be found in Appendix A5.4 and, if required, a list of suppliers can be furnished by the Consultants. All this equipment must be available before the hatchery starts production operations, i.e. before the end of 1989. It is therefore recommended that the fastest possible means be found in order to honour this strict timetable.

5.3 EQUIPMENT TO BE PURCHASED AND IMPORTED BY G.O.T.

The equipment list and provisional cost estimate can be found in Appendix A5.2. This includes four main items: hatchery and special equipment, the main farm pumps and generator. The hatchery equipment consists of those items used for water treatment and filtration (U.V. sterilizers, pumps, cleaners, triangle filters and medium biofilters) and air supply (air-blowers). The detailed specifications for this equipment will be prepared by the time of the next mission by the Consultants who will also assist in the selection of suppliers and preparation of orders. The special equipment for the hatchery will be chosen by the individual engineers involved in the detailed design of the hatchery systems: heating/air conditioning, electrical plant and PVC pipe-systems. A detailed equipment list together with specifications and estimates should be prepared by the Counterpart's own engineers before the next mission takes place.

With reference to the main farm equipment, pumps and generators, the situation is as follows:

In order to reduce the budget requirements for 1989, it has been suggested that only four pumps (out of a total of 6) and 1 generator (instead of 2) be bought initially.

5.4 OTHER EQUIPMENT TO BE PURCHASED LOCALLY BY G.O.T. IN 1989

A list of further equipment required for the project inside 1989, and which should be available locally, is given in Appendix A5.3.

Detailed specifications and final orders will be prepared during the construction phase of the project by the Senior Aquaculture Advisor and the National Project Co-ordinator.

5.5 EQUIPMENT TO BE PURCHASED AFTER 1989

The Senior Advisor and the National Project Co-ordinator will draw up the final equipment list which shall be produced at a later stage of the project's implementation.
