A Review of Forestry and Forest Products
FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
GREEN GOLD. The cover picture is from the united Nations film Green Gold. It shows new methods of pollination being tried out. This tree proved to be a fine specimen, growing faster than most of its kind. To obtain high-grade seeds, scientists covered the flowers with paper bags so that no pollen from other trees could reach them. Then they injected pollen from the tree itself into each paper bag. A few months later the new seed was ready for sowing.
The film Green Gold was produced in 1948 by the Svensk Filmindustrie, Sweden, for the United Nations. It deals with world problems of timber, trade, and conservation of forests, and shows the role played by FAO in developing timber production around the world. Information about distribution is available through the United Nations Department of Public Information, Lake Success, New York, N. Y., U.S.A. Length 20 min. B and W, size 16 or 35 mm.
