The Institute of Marine Sciences in Cuba recently became a part of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS), contributing new scientific insights to agricultural research.

Established in 2017 through the merger of the Center for Marine Bioproducts and the Institute of Oceanology, the Institute is affiliated with the Environmental Agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment. Its mission focuses on researching and developing scientific foundations for the sustainable management of marine resources, conservation of marine and coastal areas, and the commercialization of oceanographic services and products.

Joining over 35 active data providers in Cuba, the Institute currently contributes more than 30 records across diverse topics such as marine currents, seawater, bioindicators, chromatography, and more.

The participation of the Institute of Marine Sciences in agricultural research marks a significant advancement in expanding the reach of this field of study in the region. By joining the AGRIS network, the Institute further enhances the visibility of contributions made in a key area for Cuba's sustainable development and the region at large.
