This document presents the final version of the report adopted by the Working Group on Aquaculture of the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL) at its fourth meeting.

| RESUMEN |
| Se presenta el informe oficial final de la cuarta reunión del Grupo de Trabajo sobre Acuicultura de la Comisión de Pesca Continental para América Latina (COPESCAL), celebrada en San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, del 2 al 6 de setiembre de 1991. Los principales temas tratados fueron: los relativos a las recomendaciones emanadas de la VI Reunión de la COPESCAL, las actividades entre reuniones, los sub-grupos de trabajo, y el Proyecto Regional Aquila. |
| Se llevó a cabo un mini-simposio sobre patología de organismos acuáticos cultivados. Durante el mismo se hizo una versión preliminar del “estado del arte” de esta disciplina en la Región. Se formularon ademas una serie de recomendaciones sobre entrenamiento, diagnosis e información. Se hicieron ademas propuestas concretas para que sean incluidas en proyectos que la FAO está ejecutando en este campo. |
| Se restrucuturaron los sub-grupos de trabajo y la forma de operarlos. En la actividad son cuatro: acuicultura rural, nutrición/alimentación, embalses y patología. |
| Se discutieron las conclusiones y recomendaciones adoptadas durante la VI Reunión de la COPESCAL, y en especial las que resultaron del mini-simposio sobre acuicultura rural que se celebró durante la misma. |
| Como resultado de la discusión de los diferentes puntos tratados, se hicieron una serie de recomendaciones y propuestas relativas al Proyecto Regional AQUILA, para que sean tomados en consideración en la ejecución de su segunda fase. |
| Las recomendaciones y los responsables de su ejecución aparecen en forma resumida en el anexo 4. |
| ABSTRACT |
| This is the final report of the Fourth Session of the Working Party on Aquaculture of the Commission for Inland Fisheries of Latin America (COPESCAL) held in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, from 2 to 6 of 1991. The main topics were: those regarding the recommendations of the Sixth Session of COPESCAL, inter-sessional activities, working sub-groups, and Regional Project AQUILA. |
| A mini-symposium on pathology of cultured aquatic organisms was held. One of the outputs was a preliminary version of the state-of-the-art of this discipline in the region. A set of recommendations were made regarding, training, diagnosis, and information aspects. In addition, some explicit proposals were made to be included in on-going FAO projects in this field. |
| Existing working sub-groups were restructured and new operational procedures were established. There are four sub-groups now: rural aquaculture, nutrition/feeding, reservoirs, and pathology. |
| The conclusions and recommendations adopted by the Sixth Session of COPESCAL were discussed with special emphasis on those derived from the mini-symposium on rural aquaculture. |
| During the different discussions, several recommendations and proposals were addressed to the Regional Project AQUILA, to be taken into consideration in the implementation of its second phase. |
| All the matters generated several recommendations which are summarized in Annex 4. |
