Gender equality and forestry in West Africa

Produced under the project “Global Transformation of Forests for People and Climate: a focus on West Africa”, this paper draws on a gender analysis conducted to inform and guide the project implementation. Based on literature review and several key informant interviews, the paper presents findings related to gender and forestry which are common to the region. It also proposes recommendations to address gender inequalities in the forestry sector.

The document summarizes the report that, based on a review of more than 250 studies, demonstrates the importance and urgency of climate action to protect the forests of the indigenous and tribal territories of Latin America as well as the indigenous and tribal peoples who protect them. These territories contain about a third of the continent's forests.
