The Global Capacity Needs Assessment
The Capacity, Knowledge and Learning Action Plan (CKLAP) for the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (UN Decade) has been developed based on information gathered through a global capacity needs assessment conducted in 2021.
The results of the assessment were complemented with:
- a stocktaking of knowledge products and capacity-development initiatives conducted in the first half of 2022; and
- extensive targeted consultations with different global and regional stakeholder groups from May to October 2022.
The Capacity, Knowledge and Learning Action Plan (CKLAP)
The action plan is divided into two main parts.
- Part 1 identifies gaps where knowledge products or capacity-development initiatives are needed across different stakeholder groups.
- Part 2 describes the terms of reference for eight key capacity- and knowledge-development initiatives, tailored to different target groups, that define the Capacity, Knowledge and Learning Action Plan for the UN Decade.
The Taskforce on Best Practices is currently working on the implementation of the following five initiatives out of the eight initiatives part of the plan:

- Initiative 2: Ecosystem restoration youth education and learning platform
- Initiative 3: Community-based ecosystem restoration mechanism
- Initiative 4: Indigenous Peoples’ restoration approaches initiative
- Initiative 5: Exploring pluralistic extension advisory services
- Initiative 6: Restoration policy facility
- Initiative 7: Global restoration economics and finance facility
- Initiative 8: Corporate ecosystem restoration leadership network
