The finalization workshop of the Gender contextualization of SDG 6 in Senegal was held in Dakar from Monday 22 to Wednesday 24 April. The workshop was organized by FAO on behalf of all SDG 6 custodian agencies –members of the Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6– in collaboration with the Ministry for Water and Sanitation of Senegal, with the aim of promoting an inclusive and gender-sensitive analysis of water and sanitation data.

The Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6 (IMI-SDG6) entered its third phase in 2023 and it is working, between others, on the disaggregation of existing data by sex and the development of additional gender-specific and gender-related indicators for use at sub-national, national, regional or cross-border levels.

Within this context, FAO organized a multi-stakeholder workshop to initiate the exercise in May 2023.

The overall scope of the exercise was to assess the feasibility of the proposed methods and their ability to support national and/or sub-national policy needs and to identify potential mechanisms and pathways to effectively address the technical scope of the pilot exercise.

The event was co-organized by FAO and the Ministry of Water and Sanitation of Senegal. The main objective was to catalyze the process of finalization of the exercise: to present, analyze, discuss the results of the elaboration of the Testing framework – the main tool used, and to draw the findings and possible follow-up actions. The workshop brought together the team from the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, the gender focal point of FAO Senegal and other relevant national actors.
