Over six days, representatives of countries sharing the Senegal river basin (Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, and Senegal) will be meeting at the training workshop in Conakry organized by the FAO IMI-SDG6 team and the Senegal River Basin Development Authority (OMVS). The aim of the workshop is to learn, share, and discuss the spatial disaggregation of the SDG 6.4.2 indicator on the level of water stress. The participants are professionals from national institutions dealing with water monitoring and management of resources and from the OMVS secretariat.

For spatial disaggregation of the SDG 6.4.2 indicator, FAO in collaboration with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) developed the WEAP water stress plugin. It allows for assessment of the level of water stress at the basin and sub-basin levels providing a different and more hydrologically sound view on the dynamics of water resources and their use. The aim is to improve water monitoring and management.

To learn more about the methodology and the use of the plugin, please check the Water stress plugin for Water Evaluation and Planning system (WEAP). It is now available in English, French, and soon in Spanish.
