Kick-off ceremony of Silifke pilot implementation for empty pesticide containers collection

The kick off pilot collection scheme  ceremony was held in Silifke on 02 June 2023 by Silifke District of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry with participation of different stakeholders including farmers, suppliers and retailers, representatives of competent authorities and disposal facilities. 

Fifty collection containers were produced and delivered to Silifke, where greenhouse production is very common, under the GEF/FAO project “Lifecycle management of pesticides and disposal of POPs pesticides in Central Asian countries and Türkiye”.  This pilot implementation will be managed by Silifke District Directorate of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye. The collection containers have been placed  in 15 neighbourhoods in Silifke situated in southern part of Türkiye to ease the access of farmers who will drop off empty pesticides containers from greenhouses and fields.
