Winner of the International Year of Millets 2023 Photo Contest: Jonathon Rees

In celebration of the International Year of Millets (IYM) 2023, FAO launched a global photo contest open to professional andamateur photographers. The response was overwhelming, with 800+ contributions pouring in from over 50 countries. The photos captured the many benefits of millets including their diversity, capacity to thrive on arid lands and to create nutritious dishes and market opportunities.

During a side event of the Tenth Session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture yesterday, FAO unveiled a newly revamped digital tool called the “Crop Calendar,” that will help farmers determine the best timing to plant and harvest their crops. The open-access online database contains information that will help reduce the risk of production losses and increase crop yields.
