Centenary Meeting

05 April 2024, Dijon, France – For the first time since signing the Letter of Intent with the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) in November 2023, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture participated in the OIV Centenary Meeting.

In the framework of the Letter of Intent signed during the Tenth Session of the Governing Body of the International Treaty, the Treaty Secretariat was invited to present its activities during the OIV expert session of the Genetic Resources and Vine Selection (GENET) group.

The International Treaty presentations focused primarily on two aspects:

  1. The relevance and applicability of International Treaty mechanisms vis-à-vis OIV's own strategy. This included a general overview of the objectives and general principles of the International Treaty, including the relevance of the conservation and sustainable use of plants for food security, Farmers’ Rights and the Multilateral System and its Access and Benefit-sharingsystem.
  2. The Easy-Standard Material Transfer Agreement (Easy-SMTA), a tool developed by the Treaty Secretariat to facilitate adoption of the Standard Material Transfer Agreement and the Global Information System (GLIS),  with a particular focus on the specificities of vines.

The OIV meeting is being held in Dijon, France and runs from 2 to 9 April 2024.
