The commitment and support of G20 member countries to reduce FLW is highly required in efforts to achieve the SDGs goals. The availability and reliability of data is considered as the main key in measuring and formulating each country's strategy to reduce FLW.

On the occasion of the 2021 virtual global event a clear call to action was made to the public (national or local authorities) and private (businesses, including producers) sectors and individuals. They were called to prioritize actions and move ahead with innovation to reduce food loss and waste and contribute to restoring and building better agri-food systems.
World Food Systems Summit - Game Changing Propositions​

Action Tracks received over 1,200 ideas, which were elaborated and synthesized into 107 initial propositions. These propositions will undergo a wide-range of stakeholder consultations between May and June 2021, closely coordinated by the Food Systems Summit Dialogues and the work of the Scientific Committee.

Speaking at the event the FAO Director-General described the initiative as "a unique opportunity to raise global awareness". He noted that the COVID-19 pandemic had challenged people to find new ways of fighting hunger and malnutrition and said IYFV would highlight the role of digital technologies in improving nutrition and market opportunities.
Mediterranean Diet can contribute to Food Loss and Waste reduction
